Years ago, my mother always used to tell me that she never moved a single knick knack in the house when we were young, and that she taught my brother and I not to touch anything except our toys. I asked her how she did it and she told me, she just kept telling us, ‘No’. I was planning on doing the same thing, I wasn’t going to change my house at all for kids, except maybe one room could be a playroom. After having Max, I was still on that same mindset and it wasn’t that difficult to clean up after one baby. I still had to be persistent when it came to certain things and plants but they were eventually moved out of his reach. My pledge to keep my house as it was pre-baby was starting to change a bit over time though. I liked having his books and toys displayed so that when he entered the room, it was like a nice, big playroom just for him. And then, two more babies came along. They started to become mobile and then unless I wanted to be the house nazi all the time, I had to make a decision. I had to decide whether I was going to keep it all in one room, or if I was going to let things go for a temporary period of time until they got older or, if I was going to be a total stress ball constantly worrying about if they’re touching or breaking or moving something that I don’t want them to. This weekend I had a baking lesson from my new friend Madeline. Her boyfriend Andrew is on Lance’s cycling team and one time, he brought over some cupcakes that she had made. There were 3 or 4 different kinds and they tasted like they came out of a bakery! They were so delicious. They were fancy too, with fruit inside of one and fudge inside of another with amazing tasting icings. Andrew mentioned how she bakes all the time and it got me thinking that I should learn how to bake soon because I want my kids to think I’m the best at everything, of course. Whenever we have a family pot luck, it seems that we always end up with having to bring a dessert. Well, with the kids being at a crazy age and our schedules being so busy, we usually opt to buy something and take it. Plus, it’s EASIER! But after tasting these homemade cupcakes, I was truly inspired to start on my journey of baking. I want the kids to like what I make and I want them to have favorite treats that only I make. I am often asked, ‘How do you do it?’ ‘How do you juggle all three kids?’ ‘How do you sleep?’ ‘How do you do anything for yourself?’ Well, I’m gonna tell ya.
I just do what I have to do. No secret answer there! Listen–everybody does what they have to do. Read more →
I was inspired to write this blog post after going to the grocery store today. Do you ever walk by someone who just smells so good that you want to say something to them? You want to let them know that they smell good, so that they keep wearing that scent because it is such a pleasant aroma! That happened to me today. Several times! I was minding my own business looking for ‘hippie’ chips (That is what Lance calls the all natural chips that you find in the health food aisle.), and this woman and her man friend walked by me. She smelled soooo good and I almost went over and told her. I would have if she was alone, but they were involved in a conversation and I was trying to be quick. (Which is very hard for me at the grocery store for some reason.) I then was in the juice aisle, and it happened again! I went passed this older gentleman and he smelled great also! Was it smell extra nice day at Giant because I missed the memo! Read more →
Our power went off yesterday around 2:30pm. It was no big deal, just kind of a bother because I had some chicken cooking in the crock pot. It ended up staying off for 3 hours, so we ended up changing our dinner plans. It reminded me of losing power this past summer for 3 or 4 days. Lance mentioned it to me and I had almost totally forgotten about the experience. Read more →
